Here's our recommendations for 4 days of delicious food in Durango Day 1 - Start with breakfast at Carver's on Main Ave, they've got a delicious menu of hearty breakfast favorites. They are also a bakery so, fresh is really IN. For lunch, why not check out Steamworks , at the corner of 2nd ave and 8th street, where they serve up a nice mix of American cuisine with locally brewed gold-medal beers. Finish the night with Dinner at the Mahogany Grille , where lively jazz music accents a truly world class menu featuring local ingredients, great wine list and a stunningly beautiful atmosphere at very affordable prices. You'll love Chef Dave's creations! If you still haven't had enough, have a nightcap at the Office Spiritorium, right next door, where you'll find a comfortable atmosphere, excellent service, and great company. Day 2 - Enjoy a wonderful breakfast in the heart of downtown at Le Rendevous cafe where you will find a touch of Switzerland married with southwest flair. The pastries are freshly made. Le Rendevous cafe not only has delicious food, but they've got coffee you can stand a spoon in! For lunch, try the Diamond Belle Saloon on Main Ave, where you'll find an assortment of deli sandwiches, creative salads and a great daily special in a fun local hangout. For Dinner, why not try Francisco Restaurant y Cantina . Owned and operated by the Garcia Family, the restaurant is packed full of great decorations, friendly staff and great food and wonderful margaritas. Ole!
Day 3 - If you are really up for a local hangout, try the Durango Diner for Breakfast. Sit at the counter for the full effect. Hash browns, bacon, eggs, all smothered in Durango Diner's home-made green chilli sauce will set you straight for a long day of enjoying the sights and sounds. For lunch today let's get wild and try some sushi rolls at Sushitarian, on the corner of 2nd and College (not to be confused with East by Southwest right across the street.) Sushitarian has a complete menu of traditional sushi, plus a few surprises. Dinner tonight should be at Seasons Grille . They have one of the southwest's outstanding winelists and a wonderful culinary selection prepared in their exibition style kitchen. Day 4 - The College Ave Cafe is a great place to start you day, with hearty breakfast burritos that will almost make you want to skip lunch. Lunch today should be at the Palace Grille . Located adjoining the railroad station, the Palace is a fun place to dine both inside and out. Chef Paul creates a plethora of great entrees designed for the seaon. For Dinner, try Ken and Sue's located across from the Strater Hotel . If you're still up and running, check out the Diamond Belle Saloon , at 7th and Main Ave where you can catch excellent live Bluegrass and Ragtime piano entertainment 363 days per year. Day 5 - For Breakfast enjoy breakfast overlooking the Animas River at the Edgewater Restaurant at the Doubletree Hotel. A wide variety of food and a view to remember for a long time. For lunch, a romantic little hide-a-way can be found on second avenue at the Cypress Cafe . Chef Alison Dance has a Meditranian flair and the skill to make it great. For your last night, make a reservation at Chez Grand-Mere where Michel Poumay will set your taste buds aflame with his 7 course prix fixe dinner.
